Gurkhas have served the British army for decades and many have sacrificed their lives for the country. The irony being, they were earlier not granted to settle in country with their families, the same country for which they fought bravely and still continue to do so. However, a new policy has been passed that would allow the Gurkhas to settle in the United Kingdom as announced by the home secretary Jacqui Smith.

The courage and sacrifice of these Gurkha soldiers are finally honored and finally some respect is shown to these brave soldiers. Thousands of Nepalese campaigners for this cause shouted “Ayo Gurkhali” meaning the Gurkhas are coming and finally where they want to be. The campaign has been a very emotional although aggressive too. The government was criticized for its policy earlier and demand equal residency for these Gurkhas. After all, it is only fair to show some respect to these brave heroes for displaying unwavering faith and courage for many years. When the announcement was made, the Gurkhas rejoiced and few even shed tears of joy. The day is finally here when they can proudly claim residency in the country they serve.
