A team from the English site Asobitech combined new and old technology in a product that promises to please any fan of videogames. The creation, named aaSNES1, is a netbook Acer Aspire One A150 mounted inside the “shell” of a Super Nintendo (European model). More than a simple casemod, in which case just “take the old parts, put the new”, the project required much effort, since the objective was that the end result seemed as authentic as possible.
The power button on the SNES, for example, really turn on the unit. The two entries that seem to actually joysticks are USB connectors adapted. The cartridge of the game Super Mario World is a DVD / RW drive, and then brings an integrated webcam. To eject the disc, simply press the button that originally ejected cartridges. Even the SNES joysticks are converted to USB.
But the hackers were beyond: found space to embed two loud speakers in the console, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A set of five high-power white LED lights which was originally the front entrance of ventilation. Behind the cartridge, lights up when the hard drive is accessed.
The “console PC” is on sale at the auction site eBay. The auction ends in just over a week, but until now there is only a bid of 99 pence (less than 1 pound, about $ 4) and the reserve price was not reached. The winner will get, in addition to the console, the mouse originally included with the cartridge “Mario Paint”, modified as a USB optical mouse, completing the set.
