One of the most prominent social news websites, Digg has competed five glorious glorious years of dedicated services to social media with on an average of 40 million visitors to the website each month. Taking into account Digg’s success in revolutionary the social media, there are numerous websites, that are grateful to Digg for their success and increased visibility on the world wide web.

Digg began its incredible journey in the year 2004, with its owners, Kevin Rose and Owen Byrne and the website was introduced to the world in the month of December that same year, with an average of less than 1,000 visitors. January 2005 witnessed the very first podcast from Digg, that was being broadcast by Revision3, an internet video entity. The newly launched podcast called Diggnation, became one of the most incredible and informative podcasts on the internet and soon launched Digg to new heights.

In the year 2006, Digg launched an updated service called Digg 3.0 that put Digg in the most elite of list of websites that not only provided new and information on politics, gaming, business etc. but also hosted a series of topics and guarantees and brought the website to incredible heights of popularity and success.

However, the year 2009, with its massive economic slowdown also affected Digg in a big way, as the company was forced to lay of 10% of its work force and the revenue of Digg only reached $6.4 million for till the month of October this year. To get back the aura of Digg, the company decided to implement an innovative advertising protocol, where the users have been given the rights to ascertain the amount payable to the advertisers, for their advertisements on Digg’s home page.
