Amid the euphoria caused by the recent US elections, a story published in an English newspaper states the doubts over the chances of real progress for achievement of rights of LGBTs in the new government.
According to the newspaper, voters have been critical of Obama for the approval of Proposition 8, draft amendment to the constitution approved in the state of California last Tuesday, Nov. 4, that prevents the marriage between persons of the same sex in the state. This is because, according to the survey released, 70% of voters were African descendants who voted for Obama, and also endorsed Proposition 8.
According to the news story, few whites were in favor of the amendment. Among Hispanics, 50% voted against it. Because of migration, the number of blacks in the state rose by 6% compared to the 2004 elections.
Although the new president and his Democratic party have openly declared to be against Proposition 8, this position has found no echo among Obama’s black voters.
“This news is a bucket of cold water in militancy for gay rights, as they expected that California would be the vanguard in the law in favor of marriage between persons of the same sex,” says the paper.
Well, the question is: why some can get the civil rights and others don’t?

It is shocking to know that blacks who have fought for their rights turn out to be hypocrites when it comes to civil rights.. Now that they have an upper hand, they wouldn’t be interested in other marginalized groups such as the LGBT community. Obama perhaps was the wrong person. With all the initial excitement around a black president, the disappointments arising out of the usual bigotry and hypocrisy will begin, soon as he steps into the White House
My best guess is that black people have the same instincts af the white ones: they want a revenge against what happened to them and they pick gay people.
Minority vs minority! Who wins? The white men!
Lol.. How true. They want to avenge what has happened to them over these centuries and they found the soft spot to pick on: Gays. Sad!
