Heavy Use Of Marijuana May Cause Damages To Developing Brains In Teens And Young Adults

It is a known fact that drugs and marijuana are injurious to health. Yet, some people still are addicted to them. According to a recent study conducted by Manzar Ashtari, Ph.D., the director of the Diffusion Image Analysis and Brain Morphometry Department of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and his team reveal that critical areas of the brain that develop during late adolescence can be damaged when cannabis is heavily used. This also means that the risk is higher in adolescents and young adults.

However, it is not certain if over use of marijuana causes abnormalities in the brain
in adolescents and young adults. However, it is advisable to refrain oneself from abusing marijuana as it does no good to one’s health. The study appeared last month in the Journal of Psychiatric Research. The current research is builds on the previous work done by Ashtari and his colleagues.

While the researchers are busy with their studies and researches, the least we can do to contribute our bit is to advise the youth and create more effective awareness in the society. It’s about time we did it so!
