Jeff Jergerian of Rosemount, Minnesota works with Best Buy and recently came into the spotlight for his incredible innovation that in itself is a masterpiece of construction. Some time ago, Jeff decided to do something creative with his basement that otherwise would have been useless to him. After years of hardwork and without any real construction experience, Jeff finished his pet project and created a marvelous and state of the art home theater right in the basement of his house.
A big fan of the home theater systems, Jeff Jergerian and his wife Patti before the construction of their new house, decided to create their very own private home theater in the basement. According to Jeff;
“I spent a year drawing and designing pieces of the theater, reading construction how-to books and websites to learn how to do the work, and then planning each phase of it until I felt ready to begin the work.”
Initially, Jeff wanted to give his personal home theater a more classy look by decorating it with a few art pieces. The most astounding fact being that Jeff has no construction experience whatsoever and with the help of instructional manuals and other help documents, he created a a marvel of construction and technology. Jeff took a trip down the memory lane and explained how he had pages and pages of calculations for every wall, column, the stage, the electrical plans etc. In an interview, Jeff said;
“By the time I actually built out each element of the room, I had done the work in my head 20 times.”
As far as the electronics for his home theater were concerned, there Jeff had an edge. As he works in the R&D department of Best Buy for home theater installers, he had a lot of knowledge about electronics and their installations. He learned a lot about the cabling, wire management and the programming of Universal Remote Controls MX-3000. According to Jeff;
“The biggest sense of relief I felt was when I turned on the electricity for the first time after wiring the basement, and finding every outlet working (and grounded) properly, every light switch working, etc.”
In his private home theater, Jeff Jergerian has installed a projector (1080 pixels), high-definition DVD player, Sony PlayStation 3 and other awesome entertainment hardware. He gave the final touches to his project in the year 2007, at an estimated cost of $30,000. The size of his home theater is 21 x 14 x 8 feet.
