Honesty and Integrity: Learners Become Leaders

The root causes of cheating are deeply entrenched in the culture of the people. Thus, for ethics in an academic environment to be a prevailing trend and practice, there should be formal and institutionalized controls on the part of the academe to ensure the conditions of honesty and integrity.

The factors that academicians should focus on are the ways that can be done about reducing dishonesty and the technological methods by which to detect dishonesty or prevent it from succeeding in the first place.

The centers of learning are expected to make leaders out of learners. They have to make sure that the leaders they produce are ethical leaders who are products of an ethical environment and who will carry on the culture and mindset of ethics, while making a positive impact on the lives of people. Learners become leaders when they think that student honesty and integrity are the responsibilities of students.

These ethical students appreciate the challenge of honesty and integrity, and make these benchmarks of high standards along with high grades. This kind of students appreciates learning for learning’s sake, and that their high position in the classroom hierarchy comes with the pride of honesty and integrity. They measure personal achievement way beyond the class grade.

Good students do not only mean good grades in school. Schools that focus only on the achievement of high marks fail to produce truly significant individuals.
