Hope for Haiti Now Campaign: Telethon and Concert Raises Funds for Haiti

On January 22 hundreds of celebrities from different walks of life came together for “Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief” telethon and concert to raise funds for Haiti. The money raised will go to different international aid organizations which are actively carrying out rescue and relief operations in Haiti after it was devastated by massive earthquake which killed more than 120,000 people, injured millions and destroyed the poor nation.

Athletes, singers, actors and television celebrities joined singer Wyclef Jean and actor George Clooney and performed on television across different parts of America in a live telethon in which they endorsed the campaign and spoke with callers. Madonna belted out moving number ‘Like a Prayer’ while Justin Timberlake sang Leonard Cohen’s famous ‘Hallelujah’. Haiti needs help and injured people need both medical help and emotional healing. Even those who survived without a scar have terrible emotional scars and have lost everything. The country still continues to be rattled by aftershocks of the massive earthquake and many are still stuck under the rubbles.

Hope for Haiti Now campaign and global effort is the need of the moment and it is amazing how celebrities and ordinary people have pitched in with time and money. It is equally true that Haiti and its courageous people give hope to millions of people on this planet by enduring suffering which is impossible to even comprehend.
