Children and adults with Borderline personality Disorder need to be taught to acknowledge their emotions and accept them as being valid, real, safe and perfectly fine. They should be taught that emotions come from within and not generated by a monster outside. This monster is unusually significant people.
These emotions must be vented out in a right manner as spending more time with studies and not by cutting oneself, having sex with strangers and adults and not by attempting suicide. However, care must be taken to make sure that the person is not misdiagnosed, as psychologists have always sought the easy way out by labeling people.
Labeling and diagnosing are two different things but both have catastrophic effects if not done in a professional manner. It would be advisable to monitor the client for longer periods without institutionalizing as many BPDs are sent to institutions after violent behavior or self harm. Nevertheless, the future hold better prospects about treating and handling people with various personality disorders, including BPD.
