Hugo Chávez may be close to completely fail

The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, has shown a remarkable resilience throughout his career of 20 years duration in policies of all colors and flavors. He is, par excellence, the kid that always recovers the success, as Bill Clinton used to call.

Facts: he attempted a coup, failed and was arrested, but returned triumphant from prison and immensely popular. Suffered a coup d’etat which failed, and emerged victorious from the experience. He also defeated a union strike and a large oil stoppage.

Chavez lost a referendum on constitutional changes which would allow him to stay in power indefinitely, but in the following year he returned with another referendum on this issue – and won.

But lately, the Venezuelan president started to act strangely. First he invited various Latin American intellectuals to a debate, but when he knew that would be asked about the growing discontent in his country, Chavez withdrew the invitation and start to attack and mistreat the intellectuals.

Then, he revoked an invitation to the Bolivian president for an official visit and canceled his trip to the inauguration the of the new president of El Salvador. Finally, took over control of some Argentine companies, country allied of Venezuela.

As if that were not enough, with the worsening economic crisis, his social policies face difficulties and the opposition against him increases every day.

It is increasingly clear that his project “socialist” is failing, as he seems to be.
