When we consider human developmental processes, we must consider Phylogenetic development as it refers to the changes that have taken place in humans over millions of years, and the evolutionary process that have left an imprint on our genes. Vygotsky believed that if we looked at the history of our species, we could understand a child/human’s development.

Sociohistorical development refers to the changes that have taken place in the society, culture and civilization and how technology has changed etc. He hence believed that human cognition and development is essentially socio-cultural, which brings us to his main theory. Thus it becomes important to understand the mechanisms of how we develop as human beings.

One needs to consider evolutionary processes and also how the society also evolved. Without considering these simple facts of life, if we try to understand human development, it is not only unscientific but also quite unethical. When you think about human development, think about society, and also human evolution! Understand evolution can go a long way in understanding how our mind and body function.
