I am Ashamed At The Self-Proclaimed Preservers Of Indian Culture

DU prof SAR Geelani, who as been acquitted in the Parliament House attack case, was attacked by activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday. They broke into the seminar at the Arts Fac, disrupted it, insulted and attacked the participants and even spat on Geelani. And guess what the BJP spokesperson had to say; the attack was full of “patriotic emotions” but it could have been “more hygienic”.

A lecturer at Zakir Husain College, Geelani has been inviting the wrath of right wing groups for a long time now. We know he has suffered gunshots at the hands of an unidentified assassin and even his lawyer was stabbed. On this particular incident, Rudy said that “although Geelani had been acquitted” his role in the Parliament attack is “not above suspicion”. He also went on to say that the seminar was organised by a ceratin radical group. Also, Geelani does not have as clean a record as it is made out to be. He was saved in the court by the skin of his teeth but his association with militants cannot be denied.

And when Rudy was asked whether the role of RSS leadership in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi was above suspicion, he simple evaded it with “that’s not a valid question’.

I won’t say anything much here except that I am ashamed at the things people can do in India and can easily get away with them!
