Scientists have concluded that people are, indeed, capable of loving one and the same person till their last breath, in a love that lasts a lifetime. Well, researchers at the Stony Brook University in New York peg that as around 20 years of being together. The researchers used brain scans on couples who have been such for twenty years. These couples are found to be able to sustain the same level of romance and passion as young lovers do in the early times of their romance.
One-tenth of the couples exhibited the same chemical reactions when viewing pictures of their loved ones, similar to young couples barely into their respective romances. This research may be considered groundbreaking because a previous research suggested that romantic love only has a shelf life of 15 months. And that love can go away, and not turn back at all, after 10 years of loving one person.
Perhaps, the traditional notion of romance as a fading reality was formulated by those who never really experienced true love. No research is needed to confirm this fact. One look around, anywhere on this earth, and one can readily surmise that love can exist between two people till their last dying breath, even if one leaves this world earlier than the other. There are many factors that keep a couple together. Perhaps, the research instrument used for the Stony Brook University study largely revolved around the factor of passion, romantic love, or even lust. Lustful couples may sustain the fire for 20 years, but people who have found true love have something that defies temporal constraints.
