Natural calamities and wars create situations where a large number of people have to live in close distance with each other. In such cases, it becomes imperative for the survival of these people to depend upon each other.
During such situations, families are often housed in makeshift tents and other prefabricated shelters. The LifeLINK Modular Shelter from LifeLINK is not just a prefabricated shelter made in a nice form, but it leans upon the idea of building close relationships amongst those who would be using these shelters. The LifeLINK Modular Shelters are made from 1000 denier nylon walls with self skinning foam. The shelters are vacuum packed during manufacturing and would thus self-inflate immediately upon being opened. Taking inspiration from community values, the LifeLINK Modular Shelters have zippered flaps and Velcro straps along the sides of it so that separate units can be connected together forming an open space within where people from the different units can interact with each other.
The LifeLINK Modular Shelter has been designed by Jordan Cleland and appears to be in the conceptual stage as of now. Functional and practical, the shelter also has a beautiful form which may help alleviate the depression that would accompany disaster situations.
