The Afghanistan presidential elections, that are slated to begin on November 7th this year have been strongly boycotted by the Taliban and other radical Islamist groups. To show their discontentment, these terror outfits have begun a new campaign of terror in the country. Today, seven people, including three U.N officials were gunned down in a guest house, that serves as the residence for the United Nations officials. The attack took place in the early hours of morning and was comprised of heavily armed militants, with suicide bomb vests taped around them.

As per United Nations, there were 20 registered United Nations officials staying in the guest house, out of which three are confirmed dead and one seriously wounded. The attack left seven people dead, including the a bunch of militants who had stormed the compound.

The Taliban has taken full responsibility for today’s attack and has warned all the officials who have any roles to play in the upcoming presidential elections. As per Taliban’s spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid, the attack was initiated by three Taliban fighters, who were armed to the teeth with machine guns, suicide vests and grenades. In the beginning of the month of October, Taliban suicide bombers had carried out an attack in front of the Indian embassy, claiming the lives of 17 people with more than 76 injured.

As of now, the U.S administration, headed by President Barrack Obama is closely watching Afghan political situation and hopes for a clean and corruption free voting for November. United States’ trust in the government of Afghanistan has been greatly shaken after the botched elections in August this year. Depending upon the results of the elections, President Obama will decide, whether or not to deploy more troops into Afghanistan, especially at a time, when the U.S troops casualty figure is at an all time high.
