One of the biggest computer processor manufacturers in the world, Intel Corporation has announced the introduction of a new series of 48 core chips that are slated to be ten to twenty time mores powerful than the current generation of dual and quad-core processors and also extremely energy efficient.
According to Justin Rattner (Chief technical Officer, Intel),
“With a chip like this, you could imagine a cloud data center of the future which will be an order of magnitude more energy efficient than what exists today, saving significant resources on space and power costs. Over time, I expect these advanced concepts to find their way into mainstream devices, just as advanced automotive technology such as electronic engine control, air bags and anti-lock braking eventually found their way into all cars.”
Intel has been becoming increasingly efficient in terms of creating the next generation of processor chips that will one revolutionize the computing powers of the upcoming computers. Two years ago, Intel had given a sneak peek into one of its greatest creations, an 80 core chips that was based on the teraflop performance capabilities and consumed far less energy than the current generation quad core processors.
However, the 80 core chip wasn’t without its own range of faults and Intel had suggested that, the chip was just an experimental prototype, designed and developed to study the various methods through which, multiple cores interacted with one another. As of now, about 100 of the 48 core chips will be released to various researchers for testing purposes.
