As per a recent report released by Net Applications, Microsoft’s flag ship browser, Internet Explorer continues to see a downfall in popularity as well as market share and for the month of April this year, the browser recorded the lowest market share, closing with 59.95% of the total web browser market. The leader still remains Google Chrome, that continued its magnificent successful run and by the end of the survey, Chrome was seen two points ahead of Apple Safari browser.
This market trends reflects the reduced reliability and popularity of Internet Explorer and the rise of Google Chrome as one of the most preferred web browsers, even edging out the ever popular Mozilla Firefox. As per analysts, even while competing with Google Chrome, Firefox has till now managed to keep its position stable. The story with the Internet Explorer is that, the browser simply lacks the appeal to the users and in turn has been consistently losing the browser race. Users have been rejecting IE 8 in mass number and even though surprisingly IE 8 and IE 6 are still the world’s most popular browsers, the fact remains that, the Internet Explorer series needs to do a lot to reach the threshold now being created by Chrome.
When compared to the figures for the month of April last year, Google Chrome for the year 2010 has been growing rapidly with near double figure growth, amounting to 9.79%. Firefox has been slowly losing the browser battle and Microsoft, if it is able to get the IE on the rebound, then could create a healthy competitive environment between Chrome and IE.
