Masatoshi Ishikawa Introducing An All High Speed Scanner That Reads 200 Pages A Minute

At the University of Tokyo, Prof. Masatoshi Ishikawa, who is quite well known in the field of robotics has now designed and developed an all new design that would in future, make the process of document scanning a matter of seconds, instead of hours. Scanning huge volumes of pages is an arduous and a frustrating task, but with Ishikawa’s innovation, this process could become a breeze for all office and home scanning objectives.

The team of researchers, headed by Ishikawa have designed and developed a state of the art high speed scanning device, that is capable of scanning a 200 page book in less than a minute. The process of scanning from this cutting edge device, employs a high speed camera, capable of taking 500 shots a sec, along with stereoscopic (3D) imaging. The 3D imaging tool depicts parallel laser lines on the surface of the pages and then allows the computer to create a 3D image of the page and then with few adjustments, the system renders a 2D scan of the page, with the help of custom built software.

The team behind the project envisions this technology being used in smart phones, wherein the users will be able to scan the documents on the go and create a more viable mobile scanning platform.
