James C. Mulvenon Investigators Suspect The Use Of Two Chinese Schools As The Platform For The Cyber Attack On Google

The investigators currently working on the cyber attack case, that was intended at compromising Google, especially the Gmail service, are said to believe that, two Chinese schools may have been behind the hacking attempt. One of these schools is directly linked to the Chinese military and as per the investigators, the attacks could have in the preparatory phase for as far as eight months before the actual intrusion attempts began.

In the month of January this year, Google had alleged that, its corporate office networks and the Gmail service were tried to be broken in by hackers, and the hacking was later attributed to Chinese hackers, who were accused of trying siphon off personal information of numerous Chinese human rights activists., who were also Gmail users. In the initial proceedings of the investigation, the authorities had been able to trace the source of the attack servers to Taiwan, but as the investigation progressed, they have now named two institutions, namely, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School as the source of the cyber attack on Google.

The Lanxiang Vocational School is said to be offer highly advanced computer courses, that are taught by an Ukrainian professor. This recent revelation that confirms the involvement of two academic institutions, could prove to be useful in receding the mounting tensions between the U.S and China, where the former has constantly expressed its doubts over the Chinese government and the military. However, the U.S intelligence agencies are not that keen to believe the school theory, as many analysts believe that, these two institutions two could easily be the fronts for the Chinese military or the Chinese intelligence services.
