Iran to dialogue on its nuclear program, insists uranium enrichment is for fuel production

Iran says it is willing to continue negotiations on the future of its nuclear program, but clarifies that the international community must adjust to the new reality and the changes that have occurred in this area. This was transmitted during a telephone conversation on Monday by the main Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili to Javier Solana, the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union.

According to Jalili, the Islamic republic is open to discussions with the 5 +1 group composed of the permanent members of the UN Security Council (US, Russia, China, France, and UK) plus Germany on the framework of constructive cooperation.

Some members of the international community, United States, Israel, and the European Union have all accused the Iranian regime of hiding a parallel nuclear program whose ultimate objective is the acquisition of an arsenal of atomic weapons. Iran rejects this allegation. On the other hand, however, Iran has also declared that in no circumstances will it renounce its nuclear rights.

Proven feasible after a testing, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad recently opened the country’s first domestic fuel production, putting Iran underway in nuclear self-sufficiency.

Iran has always disclosed its uranium-enrichment program. What causes concern from the international community is the fact that enriched uranium that can be used in operating nuclear power plants can also be used to make nuclear weapons.
