Its been three years since the demise of the former President and dictator of the now liberated Iraq, but it seems that his popularity and his words are still entrenched in the hearts and minds of numerous individuals in the country and as well as across the Middle East.
This weekend, the citizens of Iraq, woke up to a mysterious channel playing out on their television sets, propagating the ex-dictator and praised his rule of Iraq. Initially, there was no clue as to who was running the channel, but the Associated Press later tracked down its owner to Damascus, Syria, a man named, Mohammed Jarboua who is said to be the chairman of the company that owns the channel.
There were speculations that the funding for this mysterious satellite channel might be coming from the Baathist supporters who still long for the rule of Saddam Hussein in the country. However. Mr. Jarboua has affirmed that, no sort of contributions were taken from the Baathist supporters and that the channel has been designed specifically for those who still wish to see Saddam style governance in the country.
However, the channel’s broadcast wasn’t able to reach out to the audience and has been severely criticized by the local population. Many citizens are outraged by this new channel and have stated that, such broadcasts bring back bad memories. The broadcast of the channel coincides with the date of the execution of Saddam Hussein, as per the Islamic calender.
