Webmasterpro survey found that 21% of PCs in Germany use the OpenOffice suite or other similar open source programs.
In this research, the company collected data from more than one million German internet users and by using statistics from Flash Counter Statistics Service for the numbers.
The study shows that most users – 72% – use Microsoft Office, but 21.5% of them choose between the variants of Openoffice.org (including Sun’s StarOffice, Lotus Symphony from IBM and others), while 17.1 % have no application “office” installed.
The methodology used in the study to determine which types of fonts were installed on each computer, which identifies the types of packages used office. It is known that the Germans respect the issues of IT, since they possess one of the best and most versatile markets, according to the website The Inquirer, but it still an impressive statistics and could leave some doubt as to its veracity.
The research is reinforced by a Wiki on OpenOffice (to check the use of this specific office suite), which are only references to its use in other European countries to work in the public and small businesses.
If this research be right, there is no doubt that the office suites are getting more and more space to compete with Microsoft Office.
