Is Palin the biggest mistake of the failed McCain presidential bid?

The prez and VP wannabees weren’t seeing eye to eye from mid-September up until McCain’s concession speech. McCain camp didn’t think too highly of Palin taking a prank call from a Canadian comedian posing as Sarkozy, and not telling her running mate about it. Palin camp denies this. Whatever the truth is about it, one thing is clear. The ticketmates weren’t all that chummy enough to smile all the way to the White House. They weren’t in frequent contact and he spoke to her only occasionally. That sounds like a sure way to blow the campaign. Which leaves one to wonder as to why he chose her as running mate in the first place. Some of the tensions were obvious to the public. So, when McCain said during his concession speech that losing was all his fault, people got the inkling that the tandem was ill-fated.

Who of the two blew it? Who knows. The question is who of the two had more to gain from the partnership. Maybe, McCain thought he would gain the female votes if he assigned a woman as running mate. But the woman became more of a butt of jokes than even a semblance of serious asset to the campaign. She had too much of a mind of her own, perhaps, not taking advice from McCain’s campaign. She probably thought she was the center of the campaign. At least, that’s how it looked to her when the Republican National Committee allowed her a $150,000 wardrobe for her and her family. For a comparatively cash-strapped campaign, this wardrobe budget was way beyond the original plan of $20,000-$25,000.

Some say she was ill-prepared for her media interviews. How could have Bush allowed that? Her political ambition beyond 2008 was showing at the seams. And this is probably the reason why she fell from grace with McCain’s campaign camp. Palin could very well be the McCain campaign’s fatal flaw. He probably put ideas in her head enough for her to think that there is a short and straight path from Alaska to Washington, around the time frame of 8 years. Alas, the ideas did not take off. No matter. She can still ‘”see Russia from her house.”
