Nobel Prize is under scrutiny now and claims are being made that corruption may have coloured the judgements in the past and now. The doubts were raised when a member of the jury was associated with the pharmaceuticals company that benefited from the award. Swedish Radio itself has raised questions about the board that decides the fate of the prize.
AstraZeneca is now being seen as a corrupting influence over Nobel Prize judgments and many feel the prize was unfair. The company was quoted as saying they did not exert any influence over the judgments and that such claims are baseless. Now, the controversy is raging and most people have not only started to doubt the integrity of the prize but also the integrity of those that are associated with the prize, right from the jury to the companies associated and the nominees.
This unfortunate situation could just be a tip of the ice berg and could reveal darker shades to awards and prizes that we so are used to respect. Such claims, if turned out true, can have a demoralizing effect on young researchers and award hopefuls who would see the international body as corrupt.
