Sources close to Hamas have confirmed that, the prisoner exchanged deal between the state of Israel and the Islamic militant group Hamas is close to be finalized. As per the deal, Israel will release 1,000 Palestinian detained in Israeli prisons in exchange of an Israeli soldier that was captured by Hamas forces and has been a captive for the last three years.

Mr. Shimon Peres, the president of Israel also confirmed relative success in the prisoner exchange swap deal with Hamas, while on his tour to Egypt. The deal has been specifically tailored to ensure the safe release of the captive Israeli soldier, Sgt. Gilad Schalit of the Israeli Defense Force.

The Palestinian sources have stated that, the slated prisoner swap is to take place two phases. Phase one will include the release of those Palestinian, who have been given long term sentences in Israeli prisons for their role in terror attacks on Israel. This batch is also expected to include Marwan Barghouti, a senior Fatah member, who is currently serving multiple life sentences for his involvement in terrorists attacks in Israel.

The deal has constantly been mediated by Germany and Egypt who hope to see a concrete deal in place before the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. If this deal does come through, not only will it be a good news for Sgt. Schalit, but it will also relieve considerable pressure off Mr. Peres, as the international community has been asking of Israel to take constructive steps towards a better relationship with Palestine.
