With X’mas and New Year’s round the corner, Mc Donald’s new ad from Netherlands seems to be extending greetings with the picture of unlimited French fries stacked symbolically.
Mc Donald seems to be exploring minimalist ideas. Recently they launched burger stores in Japan without flaunting their brand name. Amazingly here too there are no signs of burgers, free soft drinks or whispers of any freebies either. Also missing are those slogans about hunger and hunger help lines.
These are difficult recession times. This year’s Christmas and New Year’s will be different. No point in tempting people to splurge when they don’t have enough to spend on daily basis. Maybe that’s the reason Mac’s advertising and marketing strategy is not to tempt people to spend more with various options, choices, clowns and frills. This one certainly goes with the mood of the season.
One another interesting aspect of good advertising is that they must feel the pulse of the people to get popularity and maximum publicity. So without going overboard Mac is saying it simply with this Merry Christmas greeting!
