Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said that there have been 806 significant earthquakes in central Italy in the most recent days, not giving seismic respite to the country that still mourns the death of 289 victims of the April 6 Monday earthquake that measured 6.3 magnitude on the Richter scale. Berlusconi attended the Friday mass funeral in the quake-hit Italian central region of Abruzzo whose capital L’Aquila was hardest hit.

Out of the 806 tremors recorded since the April 6 devastating quake, there were nine earthquakes that measured between 4 and 5 in magnitude. On Thursday alone, more than 186 earthquakes were recorded.

The Italian prime minister also reported that 15,350 of the 39,500 evacuees had already been relocated in 1,680 private households and 139 hotels on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo. Some evacuees still live in tents.

Berlusconi also referred to the phenomenon of looting after the disaster. 700 soldiers have been deployed in the area to solely tackle such crimes. 200 technical experts have also been sent to the area to check the condition of the affected buildings, including 167 private houses, 12 schools, and 5 supermarkets. Hundreds of psychologists are also set to help the people manage their trauma over the earthquake and supervise the subsequent phases of recovery.
