If you were planning to snort some cocaine before entering the pub for a pint or two of beer, think twice. If you are in Scotland, you will be asked to go through a test conducted by Itemiser, a device detects traces of cocaine, cannabis, heroin and ecstasy just by analysing a hand swabs in seconds.
The test may be voluntary but if a person is tested a positive, he or she wouldn’t be allowed inside the pub and may even be arrested on charges on drug consumption. If you are found carrying drugs on your body, expect to do time in prison for sometime. The devices turns green if a person is clear, and turns amber if small traces are found and if the light turns red, the person would be searched and arrested.
The device has raised a huge controversy and the police claim this move is only to save the society from the ill effects of drugs. This may however amount to policing the public in literal terms and may not be taken in the right sense. Moreover, the device may n ot always be accurate and may turn red even if the person has just touched some surface containing one of the drugs.
