The name Katherine Moennig may not sound very familiar to most people and one might wonder why they can’t associate the name with the beautiful face. That is because Kate is best known as Shane McCutcheon, her most famous character till date. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Kate’s German, Scottish and Irish ancestry make her an exceptional beauty, making it difficult for viewers to look away whenever she appears on screen.
Extremely talented and with a huge fan base, Kate still isn’t as well known as her cousin Gwyneth Paltrow because of her preference for choosing peculiar roles, usually those involving some gender bending. Her portrayal of an m2f transsexual, Jake Pratt, in Young Americans shot her to fame but it was her role as the androgynous and immensely desirable I-don’t-do-relationships Shane McCutcheon in The L Word that gave her real stardom (and had women the world over questioning their sexuality!). When The L Word ended after six successful seasons, it was Kate as Shane that viewers reported missing the most.
Kate featured in the music video “Is Anybody Home” by Canadian band Our Lady of Peace. Heavily tattooed, Kate worked as a model for a while before she started acting. Apart from her several appearances in popular TV shows (usually portraying queer roles) she also performed in the stage play, Guardians. Kate’s latest show, Three Rivers, in which she played Dr. Miranda Foster was unfortunately pulled off the air last month. Fans of Kate would be happy to know that her latest movie, Everybody’s Fine (in which she plays Drew Barrymore’s girlfriend), is being better received.
Kate’s appearance with Francesca Gregorini in 2005 sparked rumors that the two were dating. However, intensely zealous of her privacy, Kate has incessantly refused to discuss her sexuality or reveal any details about who she’s dating. For her fans, it doesn’t really matter; she remains their most-desired Goddess no matter what!
