Julie Andrews whose songs from The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins are popular all over the world even today has been unable to sing after vocal chords surgery in 1997. But she may get her singing ability and youthful voice back in a year or two thanks to new revolutionary technique.

Julie Andrews underwent operation to remove non-cancerous nodules on her vocal chords and lost her ability to sing effortlessly since she could hold a song note due to tissue scarring. She even sued the New York surgeons and won £600,000 as settlement amount.  But only now a new treatment which is being developed by a tissue engineer, Professor Robert Langer of MIT and voice specialist Dr. Steven Zeitels has given her new true hope for getting back her singing cords.

The technique involves replacing scarred vocal tissues with man-made gel of unique substance which is not rejected by the body and can mimic the natural vocal cords. Julie Andrews has met already met the team of researchers and may become first human to undergo this new revolutionary treatment.
