In the month of March this year, Trends Updates did a post on perhaps one of the most eco-friendly supercars, the Koenigsegg Quant. This concept car was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this year and was admired by almost everyone who had an opportunity to view this technological marvel.

The Quant is developed by the Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg, in collaboration with NLV Solar, a Swiss firm specializing in the field of clean and renewable energy. However, long after the Geneva motor show, the Quant remained as a concept car and very few believed that it would ever be pressed into production.

Now from an inside source at Koenigsegg, comes the news that, Quant has been stated for production and will be hitting the automotive markets soon. There has been no official word so far from the makers of this magnificent supercar. Hence, it cannot be established as to when the very first ‘Quant’ would roll out of the assembly lines.

This ‘beauty’ has a top speed of 275kph (171mph), with an estimated range of 500 kms (312 miles). It can zoom from 0-62 in little over 5 seconds. Now that is ‘fast’ for a supercar that doesn’t guzzle gasoline, but runs on clean and renewable energy. One of the primary reasons for Quant’s extremely long range is perhaps the use of ultra-thin photovoltaic cells, that are comprised of iron-sulphur compound pyrite (iron disulphide).

There is also been reports of talks between Koenigsegg and General Motors for the takeover of Saab (GM brand) by the Swedish auto maker. If this deal comes through, then Koenigsegg would be able to do extensive advanced R&D (Research & Development) as it will have complete access to Saab’s production engineering data along with its testing facilities.
