L.A Musicians Experimenting With New Pay Model For Their Albums, Including Free Monthly Albums

The world of music as we knew it a few years ago is now all changed and with the advent of Internet music, online streaming and online media sharing, the concept of digitized audio tapes have literally facing extinction. But, with the binary digits now being the main source of selling music albums and for the emerging new artists to be discovered there has also been the plague of digital piracy that has run amok.

Knowing that, it would be a futile effort to fight the online piracy and free media sharing services, John Wood and a group of other musicians have decided to pursue an altogether new model, through which they hope that, at least they could make a living for themselves, if not limousines and private planes. As per the new payment model, John Woods has decided to releases one new album every month, amounting to the creation of one song every three days. Then, the group begins to distribute their music to anyone who wishes to give it a try or share their compositions with their friends etc. and all that for absolutely free of cost. In return, the Mr. Woods simply requests for donations or subscriptions for the CDs he distributes.

Distributing free music isn’t anything new as, some of the best known bands in the world, such as Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails etc. have been known to provide free online album releases and count on the deluxe CD editions as well as concert tickets to make money from. However, for emerging artists like John Wood, it’s very difficult to gather such a huge fan base and dream of sold out concert halls at this early stage. Hence, he has created the one album a month plan, with which he intends to gather more fans reach out to others, with hopes that someday money would start pouring in.

According to John Woods,

“Obviously that would be a great side of it and
that’s something we’re aiming towards. To me, this whole project is
really just about music and art and creativity.”
