Rural Studio, a design-build architecture studio under the Auburn University is into teaching students to build safe, well-constructed inspirational homes for the poor. The 20K project is a stride taken by the studio towards creation of shelter on a firm financial plan based on a concept to design and build a house for $10,000 in materials and $10,000 in proposed labor cost. The Loft House is one of the four wonderful dwellings created under this project by the foursome-Ryan Stephenson, Joey Fante, Kait Caldwell and Aimee O’Carroll.

The Loft House created as a part of the 2007/2008 thesis class boasts of an easy to use alternating tread stair that takes up less space compared to the conventional stairs. Initially envisaged on the 502-loan program from the United States Agriculture Program, this project acts through the Hale Empowerment Revitalization Organization (HERO) that provides loans opening at $20K for shelter.
An admirable interior with a compact exterior at just $20,000 is a challenging project, which the students from all around the world at Auburn University have accomplished. 6 years through it, many new economical adobes have taken shape and would continue to in the years to come.
