Modern furniture designs somehow are expected to do a bit more than the usual and multitasking and making themselves useful for more than just one purpose is something that is becoming more and more of a trend with each passing day. Designers these days are trying hard to create tables that vanish into walls, television sets that duck under the bed and even an entire kitchen that can be pulled out and then pushed back in within seconds. The Madame Est Servie ironing board-mirror and XY table-chair are a couple of more additions to this long line.
Designed by Aïssa Logerot, both the designs though seem very fragile and in some sense more stylish and less practical. In all honesty the ironing board that doubles up as a mirror has been an idea that has been pitched in earlier and unless the design takes care of aspects such as heat and water vapor generated from the ironing and creates a design where the glass on the other side is sufficiently unaffected, the mirror cheval idea might not hit home hard.
The XY chair-low table combo seems far easier to work with and is something that can work pretty well. The swivel system is simple and clean, making the concept much more practical. Either way the philosophy of clubbing two consecutive actions into one and creating a single accessory for it is a commendable thought indeed!
