The Philippines definitely suffers from a huge population growth. In recent months, the issue of birth control has taken a sensational sociopolitical scenario. The classic and proverbial clash between church and state has never been more apparent than in the issue of contraception. Legislators have passed the controversial Reproductive Health Bill that many influential sectors are hindering to be passed into a full fledged law. While debates are raging in the country, unwanted pregnancies and abortions continue to occur.
The Reproductive Health Bill is a comprehensive piece of legislation that directly addresses the reality of population boom. It covers even the quality of sex education that should be given to elementary school students. In a democratic country such as the Philippines where the Catholic Church is extremely influential, an immediate solution such as a birth control law has sadly gone to never-ending debates, with opposing factions issuing their own respective propagandist agenda to try to influence the public.
Marie Claire Magazine, one of the more popular and widely circulated magazines in the Philippines came out very recently with an ad campaign that sends the message for people to make up their own minds regarding the controversial birth control legislation. The social awareness campaign exhorts people to think on their own, and not be influenced by powerful lobbies and propaganda. BBDO Guerrero executed the equally powerful print campaign.
