First there came the immensely anticipated Apple iPad tablet with a price tag of over $600. Then came the announcement from Freesscale Semiconductors in regards to their $200 tablet device that left the online world in shock for days. Now, Marvell, a leading chip maker has given a little glimpse into a new tablet device, called Moby that, would enable the users, especially students to conduct online activities along with high definition online content. The catch being, that this all proposed tablet device could very well be the most inexpensive in the market, with a price tag of just $100.
This tablet device from Marvell will not only assist students with the online activities, but will also provide them with a media player, to listen to their favorite tracks. These tablets will be powered by Marvell ARMADA 600 series processors, that are said to provide speeds equivalent to gigahertz. Furthermore, Moby will be equipped with all sorts of connectivity options, such as wifi , Bluetooth, GPS and FM radio, along with full high definition 1080p support.
The company has so far given a glimpse of the Moby, which has been stated as being in reference design stage and has given no plans as to the availability or the manufacturing details of the tablet device. However, Marvell has emphasized that, the Moby will be available for purchase by the end of year 2010.
According to Weili Dai (Co-founder, Marvell),
“Education is the most pressing social and economic issue facing our country and our times. I believe the Marvell Moby tablet can ignite a life-long passion for learning in all students everywhere. Marvell’s goal is to fundamentally improve the way students learn by giving them more efficient, relevant — even fun tools to use.
