When Mercedes does something, then you know that it has a touch of class and a dash of elegance attached to it. With diesel powered cars long gone as the trend of the season and hybrid drivetrains all but here to take over, Mercedes is also looking towards the future with is new S400 BlueHybrid. Being dubbed as the world’s most economical luxury sedan with a spark-ignition engine, the car is all about luxury going hand in hand with green technology.
The S400 has been modeled to a large extent on the S350, but the car does not compromise on trunk or seating space due to its very unique battery arrangement. The lithium-ion battery resides in the engine compartment where the traditional starter battery usually sits, enabling the car to retain the original space. The V6 engine in the S350 has been modified to suit the Hybrid drivetrain with increased power, yet lower emissions.
The S400 tops off at 155mph and can hit 100 km/hr from naught in just 7.2 seconds. The S400 is not only a better car in terms of technology and performance compared to the S350, but its hybrid engine enables it to go much greener than any other luxury sedan before. On display at the Paris Motor Show for now, it surely is taking Mercedes in a new green direction!
