So much for loving your pet. Mickey Rourke created quite a fashion stir when he walked the red carpet at the Oscars last weekend wearing his pet’s pic on a pendant around his neck. Loki, Rourke’s beloved Chihuahua has passed away just a short time before the awards the show. And that is why, Rourke was down the dumps and not much in the mood to face the cameras at the grand awards ceremony.

But New York-based designer friend Betina Wassermann came to his rescue. Upon hearing of the sad demise of Loki, she could empathize with him because she too had recently lost a furry companion herself. So to cheer up his spirits, Betina created a pendant by soldering an image of Loki between two pieces of glass with a lead-free solder and sent it to Rourke.

Rourke was touched by the sweet gesture and even reciprocated by sending a personal ‘thank you’ note.
