Well, now Microsoft has hit Apple where it hurts most with this new pragmatic ad campaign. Yes, this is continuation of the ‘I am a PC’ series but goes a step ahead exploring why Microsoft laptop hunters end up opting for PCs rather than Apple. It has also created a ‘Laptop Hunters’ website.
For this ad campaign Microsoft actually short listed people and sent them out with limited budget ranging from $700 to $1000 to hunt for a laptop. Their laptop hunt was covered by camera and the crew. The ad shows Lauren, typical regular American looking for a speedy laptop with a 17- inch monitor and comfortable keyboard. She has no large expectations. She doesn’t find one fitting her budget in Apple store.
She finds a Microsoft Laptop well within her tailored budget. As she strides out of Apple store, she says on camera, “I am just not cool enough to be a Mac Person.” This is the bottom line of the campaign. That’s where Apple will lose ground in business in the world hit hard by recession. Of course Apple is yet to counter this smart one!
