Microsoft Bags An All New Domain Name For Office 2010

Recently, Microsoft took a bold initiative to challenge its arch rival, Google by introducing an all new web-browser based Microsoft Office Suite, known as the “Office 2010.” This new service has been seen as direct answer to Google’s popular Google Apps, that has taken the world of online office suites by storm. The Office 2010, is expected to be completely like a MS Office package that will be available online for all users and will enable them to create, edit, save, and share documents on the internet.

Now, Microsoft has taken the Office 2010 gala a step further by grabbing an awesome domain name for its new service, called Office.com. This new domain name has been acquired by Microsoft from ContactOffice group, a Europe based company that has been in the field of online office solutions since the 1990s. The transfer of the domain took place on August 4th 2009 and has been confirmed by the Whois database, that shows the current registrant as Microsoft Corp.

The all new domain will act as a great advertising tool for Office 2010, as both the service and domain name are so called ‘made for each other’. The Office 2010, will be available to all the users with a Windows Live account, same as the users who use Google Apps, need a Google / Gmail account.

According to Microsoft,

“Office Web applications will be available in three ways: through Windows Live, where more than 400 million consumers will have access to Office Web applications at no cost; on-premises for all Office volume licensing customers including more than 90 million Office annuity customers; and via Microsoft Online Services, where customers will be able to purchase a subscription as part of a hosted offering.”
