At the Professional Developers Conference, Microsoft’s Ray Ozzie spoke to a group of professional tech bloggers where he has stated that the current boom in mobile phone applications is overrated and that such applications are not going to be a differentiating factor when it comes to smart phones.

According to Mr. Ozzie, the mobile phone applications are far easier to develop and can be integrated into any platform, unlike the software developed for the desktop computers and notebooks, that require a lot of hard work, due to the complicated operating systems such as, Windows and Mac. However, the ever increasing popularity of the applications for Apple iPhone and the newly introduced Google Android Market for smart phones based on Google Android mobile operating system is a concrete fact, that can easily over shadow the statement by Ray Ozzie.

In a group interview at the PDC, Mr. Ozzie made the statement and also announced the launch of Windows Azure, an application running platform that would allow the users to run applications on the internet. Nowadays, the consumers are much more aware about the third party applications, that can make their smart phones almost an inseparable entity and also the importance of the features provided with the smart phones is slowly becoming redundant and is fast being replace by the applications that are developed for such devices.
