Microsoft Changes The Rude Rebuttal for Internet Explorer Promotional Contest

Recently, Microsoft started an all new Internet Explorer 8 promotional contest by the name of ‘Ten Grand is Buried Here’. The campaign revolved around the idea, that all those users who use Internet Explorer 8 will be able to take part and for the non IE8 users, they would have to install the new browser. The catch being, that the campaign would be available only on the IE8 browser.

Users are expected to follow the daily updates and need to find the $10,000 that are hidden somewhere on the web by Microsoft. However, one of the most disturbing facts of this campaign was the rebuttal that Microsoft had put on the error page, whenever the home page was accessed from a different browser. The message read, “But you’ll never find it using that browser. So get rid of it, or get lost.”

Under mounting criticism from users across the globe, today Microsoft not only removed that horrible statement, it also allowed access to users with different browsers. Previously, the home page for this treasure hunt was concealed and could be only viewed with Internet Explorer 8. But now, all those restrictions have been removed and in fact, Microsoft is encouraging and urging users with different browsers to “get lost in the hunt”.

Over at the Ten Grand is Buried Here, Microsoft is encouraging users to involve their friends in the treasure hunt stating;

It’s not as stupid as it sounds. With all the stuff you have on, you wont be able to keep an eye out for all the clues 24/7. So, team up with your friends to catch all the clues on Twitter. Share the clues and share the big prize.”
