Security firm Secunia said in a report that Apple products are more vulnerable than any other company – including Microsoft‘s.
The report was released on Thursday (22), and is based on analysis on the companies products in the first half of 2010. In second place comes the Oracle, to then be followed by Microsoft.
The statement comes in counter-intuitive those who argue that Apple is the company whose technology products are safer.
However, the company relativize the vulnerabilities of the companies, saying that some take precedence over others. “So, Secunia is not saying that Apple’s products are less safe than other products. But the report must tip the rest of the myth that Apples products are naturally safe,” says the magazine PC World.
Secunia concludes that, generally, a large market share means more vulnerabilities – which is not surprising.
However, this will cause some surprise to those who believe that Microsoft products are particularly vulnerable – Secunia reports that they are not. Vulnerabilities in primary PCs are not caused by the Microsoft programs, but by third party programs, asserts the “PC World”.
Secunia’s report states that a typical end-user PC with 50 programs installed is 3.5 times the 24 vulnerabilities in third party programs installed from a user with 26 Microsoft programs installed. It is estimated that this proportion will increase 4.4 times in 2010.
