Microsoft has announced the retail prices of it much awaited Windows 7 operating system. The all new OS is an upgrade for all the consumers running genuine Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. The retail version also works on the systems currently running the pre-release BETA version of Windows 7.
The all the new Windows 7 will be available in select retail outlets all across the United States from July 11, 2009. Users can buy an upgrade copy of Windows 7 Home premium for $49 or Windows 7 Professional for $99.
The current prices offered are bounded by duration and the availability of the product as Microsoft isn’t planning on mass producing Windows 7. The upgrade version copy will be available at Amazon, Best Buy, Microsoft’s own store, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Costco, Staples, Wal-Mart and other retailers.
According to Microsoft Corporate V.P Brad Brooks,
“That truly is a price that we have never even come close to in terms of an operating system release. We’ve still got a business to run.”
Although Windows 7 prices are considered to be well below Windows Vista prices, still, Microsoft is finding itself in a rough waters, as Apple Inc had recently announced that it will roll out the all new Snow Leopard OS for just $29. Snow Leopard is a much anticipated upgrade to Mac’s Leopard operating system.
The mass boxed release of Windows 7 operating system is slated for October 22, 2009 and Microsoft intends to charge $119 for Home Premium, $199 for Professional and $219 for Ultimate editions. These version will be the upgrades for current windows owners. However, completely fresh copies of Windows & will be available for $199 for Home Premium, $299 for Professional and $319 for Ultimate edition respectively.
The retail version of Windows 7, that is to be released on October 22, 2009, will include 14 language packs covering, English, Spanish, Japanese, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Hong Kong Chinese.
