Solar energy, one of the most commonly used renewable and reliable source of energy always suffered from a drawback. The sun’s energy though available throughout the day, couldn’t be stored and used since all these years. But now, the researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) figured out a way to do so. You know what this means? You can now use the sun’s energy for an indefinite period.

The project uses plant photosynthesis as a foundation for the storage of this energy. The water present in the atmosphere is broken down into its elemental components- hydrogen and oxygen gases which when needed re-combine in the fuel cell to generate carbon-free current. This process is economical, doesn’t use any chemicals and easy to carry out. The scientists feel that this would be a major step towards the generation of dirt free, renewable energy on a large scale.

Though the project is still in the developmental stage and is about a decade away to be adopted for mainstream power supply, I feel that it would benefit all of us in more than one way. It will reduce our electricity bills and also give us cleaner power. The people of the world will surely give a warm welcome to this new discovery.
