The GSMA mobile phone industry has plans to standardize chargers for all cell phones by 2012. An announcement was made by 17 mobile phone operators.
The idea behind this agreement is that the convenience factor should be high. You may use the same charger for your next cell phone as well.
Such a move can help in reduction of environmental hazards with the reduction in greenhouse gases produced from manufacturing and transporting replacement chargers a year. This initiative has been joined hands by 3 Group, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Vodafone, Nokia, Motorola, Orange, Qualcomm, Italia, Telefonica, Telenor, T-Mobile, LG, AT&T to name a few.
The new standardized charger is to have a shared USB interface that not only meets higher energy efficiency but also saves energy by 50 per cent. Hence, this is could be yet another power saving method, however a convenient one for the consumers.
