It is said that on that date we move into a new age where we are more aware of our spirituality and after that age there will be another one but the time between stages grows shorter until you reach the end and it starts again. The Mayans where very smart but they never said we will all die only we will "evolve" you could call it. These modern Mayans I think are rather naive about their culture if they weren’t aware of the meaning of the famous Mayan calendar. Also the events of 2012 weren’t just seen by the Mayans but other people such as Nostradamus who is thought to have predicted 911.
