A portrait of a naked woman, with hands crossed, with a delicate look and shy smile is similar to the most famous picture from the painter Leonardo da Vinci and is one of the highlights of a new exhibition at the Museo Ideale Leonardo Da Vinci, Italy.
The exhibition Joconde – Da Monna Lisa alla Gioconda Nuda is dedicated to works inspired by the Mona Lisa picture. The exhibition is divided into two parts: one with historical and works with other pieces of contemporary art.
The first displays paintings and drawings of the 16th century to the 20th century inspired by the Mona Lisa. Some of these works bring pictures of naked Mona Lisa, but what stands out is the above, work that has ben attributed to Da Vinci in the past but, according to experts, would probably be from a disciple or imitator.
According to the museum, this version of the Mona Lisa belonged to the uncle of Napoleon Bonaparte, Cardinal Joseph Fesch (1763-1839).
The aim of the show is to discuss “the origins, the success and the mysteries” of the Mona Lisa. Besides the exhibition, the museum suggests the difficult task of documenting and cataloging all the Mona Lisas of the world – from the 16th century until the present day.
The exhibition Joconde – Da Monna Lisa alla Gioconda Nuda a is being displayed in the Museo Ideale Leonardo Da Vinci in the region of Tuscany, until the day September 30.
