Motorola usually does not disappoint its consumers with ugly and impractical phones but even the best sometimes have to fall. At the time that it was in the process of launching the Aura, Motorola had plans of bringing to the market another luxury phone, the Ivory E18.
One look at the pictures of the Motorola Ivory E18 and there is no surprise this phone never made it to the market. Aura made great success and generated a lot of interest even though it was intended for a niche market and the Ivory E18 intended for the same section flopped embarrassingly. The Motorola Ivory E18 was designed with three models of gold, platinum and stainless steel chassis (as the cheapest). The phone seemed to thrive on the idea that a dual sliding mechanism would be enough to sell it to the rich clientele. Unfortunately, the design was just not impressive enough to interest any of the operators.
The sliding mechanism on top involves the display which hides the function keys beneath and the slider at the bottom covers the T9 keypad. Though not ugly, the slim phone does not raise enough interest at all in the design area.
