So, is Mozilla ever going to take out the latest version of its immensely famous internet browser, Firefox ever? According to Mozilla, it plans to release the browser by the end of this year and in doing so, it has now added another beta edition to Firefox 3.6, making it the fourth beta addition to the much awaited Firefox 3.6 in an effort to provide the browser with additional tests before going for a full blown release.
According to Mike Beltzner (Director, Firefox),
“Due to the excellent work on knocking down the Firefox 3.6 Beta topcrash list, we’ve decided that it would be worthwhile to ship another beta update to our close to half million testers to confirm our expectations. We’d also like to get as much feedback as possible on the more than 140 fixes we’ve made since we shipped the update last week.”
One of the major fixes in Firefox 3.6 B4, is the compatibility achieved by Mozilla to ensure that, the add ons from the previous versions are able to run with the latest one and as per Mozilla, about 70% of all add ons have been been optimized for Firefox 3.6 beta 4.
Even though it seems to be a noble idea to release another beta for the new version, to test out its reliability, still the fact remains that, it will infact delay the launch of the Firefox 3.6 release candidate. However, Mozilla has assured that, it will wrap up the entire project before the end of this year and will have the new browser ready for download.
In a statement, Mozilla stated,
“Closing on blockers in order to deliver a release candidate build this week. Still aiming to be ready to ship in late December.”
Delays in the release of softwares isn’t anything new, as the developers and companies, prefer to take their time and launch a perfect product, instead of pushing through the project, releasing an untested software just to meet the deadline and then take the heat for it when something goes wrong.
